Memory Maker is a scifi short film that imagines a new twist on the machine-led takeover.
It follows Dr. Turner - a Memory Painter - who creates synthetic memories of human experiences, feeding them to machines to drive their intelligence ever higher. Originally commissioned by TCL, the film was later expanded and re-released as the debut episode of Wonder Studios’ Beyond The Loop anthology series. Apart from compositing in post, the visuals and music were generated almost entirely with AI.
As AI Lead, I was deeply involved in bringing Memory Maker to life, sketching, generating, animating and compositing the majority of shots as well as editing. I also created the film’s music and voiced the main character, using ElevenLabs’ Voice Changer. I was given significant creative freedom in shaping the world and refining the story together with the team, contributing a substantial portion of the final writing. The film was directed by Nik Kleverov.
Most shots were created using image-to-video techniques, with custom LoRAs ensuring character consistency. Stills were primarily generated in Flux, with a few created in Krea.1, and composited in Photoshop. For animation, around 80% of the shots used Kling (versions 1.6 and 2.1), with some produced in Hailuo and a few in Veo 3. The Memory Sequences were processed through a custom TouchDesigner filter built from scratch, transforming generated videos into the painterly style seen in the final film. Final compositing and animation were completed in After Effects, and editing was done in Premiere.
First-draft sound effects were created in ElevenLabs, while the score was composed in Udio. ElevenLabs’ Voice Designer and Voice Changer were used for the main character’s voice, and its text-to-speech tools were used for various other lines.
